Dance

Bio

I’m currently a dance member in the West African performance art company, Troupe Dada, and an apprentice under Zakiya Cornish funded by Pennsylvania Council of the Arts.

I performed with African Rhythms Drum and Dance Troupe, a West African and AfroCuban performing arts organization, at University of Pennsylvania from 2012 - 2015 and West African Vibes, a contemporary Afrobeats dance troupe that performs dance fusions of Afrobeats, traditional West African dance, and diaspora techniques from 2014 - 2015.

While studying abroad at University of Ghana in 2014, I trained in traditional Ghanaian dance and performed in a thesis performance presentation.

Teaching Experience

Post graduation, I taught traditional and contemporary West African dance to high school students at Kensington High School and taught a traditional and contemporary West African dance class for youth ages 6 through 12 at Odunde 365 I Am BUMI program from January through May 2016. In February 2017, I taught a three week traditional West African and Afrobeats fusion adult dance class series in a collaboration with The Free Library of Philadelphia and North 5th Street Revitalization Project. In July 2017, I taught a traditional West African and Afrobeats fusion children dance class at The Free Library of Philadelphia McPherson Square branch.
